Seems as though I should post this here- from 2014.

Morning Sentinel- Waterville, Maine

http://www.centralmaine.com/2014/04/27/winslow_teacher_to_study_in_israel_under_fulbright_program_/

So WOW, we are here!

2/28- 3/1
OK, leaving the Bangor airport was pretty straightforward.  You know, it's Bangor...  Philly was pretty normal as well... a meal at Legal Seafood ( what does that mean exactly?  versus illegal?).  E and I meander towards our gate 1 1/4 hours before departure and what do we see?  this-
What is this you might ask?  Well, we already had gone through security, TSA screening etc, but the flight to Tel Aviv had extra security measures.  My carry-on had to go through the machine three times before they declared me safe.  Phew.

Our flight turned out to be 9 1/2 hours instead of 11.  Fine by us.  I'm not sure what E did but I slept.  I woke up for breakfast, then slept until landing.

We had LOTS of luggage- over 200lbs ?  Our taxi brought us to our apartment where we met Ofra.  She let us in and gave us the lowdown.

Tons of feral cats in TLV.

                                                                    HOME for now!

Next, it was out to find food.
OK, as we all know, in spite of Rosetta Stone, my Hebrew is just pathetic :(

Grocery shopping was an adventure.  Here is what we saw.

Yeah, me too.  But we did our best to buy some essentials... milk, pita bread, hummus and yogurt. ..                                                              or so we thought.

See one should always learn the language- I have no idea what is in this but I'm sure it is fun and babyish???????  or diapers?  or???

SCIENCE LESSON-  OK students, read the graph.  What has happened to the value of the US dollar vs.  the Israeli New Sheqel?    So our pita bread cost 6.90 sheqels.  How many dollars is that?

So at this time- 9:35 pm, we are 7 hours ahead of Maine, our apartment is kind of unpacked.  The milk we bought is NOT milk.  We do not know what it is?  and the cream cheese for the bagel is not cream cheese.  However, caffeine awaits in the morning, and tomorrow is another day.

Sabbatical week one: Read everything I can AND email every contact everywhere!

Counting down to Israel, but busy, busy, busy! ( Professor Hinckle)

Busy writing

Teachers- using iPads?  This blog is awesome!  In addition to suggesting a plethora of apps, it discusses the more important issue of how the classroom/learning shifts from teacher-centered, to student... a blurb  Education’s landscape has changed greatly in 5 years and many aspects of teaching and learning that once were concrete are now being questioned. The iPad has played a big part in starting this questioning and challenging of old norms. Students are also challenging the system and their teachers as they take control of their learning. Education is no longer just about information and as the value of knowledge tumbles and access becomes more fair and democratic, the flexible talents of the iPad for creating, learning, collaborating and problem solving continue to shape this new world of connected learning.
